Boulder County Dumpster Rental Cost: How Quotes Are Built

Roll-off dumpster at a Front Range residential project

A dumpster quote in east Boulder County is four or five numbers stacked together. Read each one and the invoice will not surprise you.

The short answer on Boulder County dumpster rental cost: the price is built from the container size, the weight it includes, the per-ton overage, the rental days, and delivery to your address. City permits sit on top. I am not publishing a price table for Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Erie, or Firestone, because I do not have a sourced one. Here is how to read the quote instead.

TL;DR

Get at least two quotes for the same size and the same rental days. Compare included tons, overage per ton, extension fee, and who pulls the permit. In Louisville, add the City Temporary Use Permit even on a driveway. Street placement adds a city process everywhere.

How a Roll-Off Quote Is Built

  • Container size. 10, 15, 20, 30, or 40 yards. Bigger costs more, but one larger container can beat two hauls.
  • Included weight. Every quote includes a tonnage allowance. Shingles, tile, concrete, and soil hit it fast.
  • Overage per ton. The line that turns a fair quote into an ugly invoice. Get it in writing.
  • Rental period and extensions. Ask how many days are included and what each extra day costs.
  • Delivery address. Distance from the yard and site access both matter.
  • Debris type. Clean yard waste, clean concrete, and mixed construction debris can be priced differently.

Permits Are the Line Items You Can Look Up

These are the published city numbers I could verify:

  • Louisville: a Temporary Use Permit is required even on private property. Street placement uses the Public Works right-of-way permit, which lists a $75 base fee and $75 per week for a roll-off (City of Louisville).
  • Lafayette: street placement needs a ROW permit, and the contractor needs a City license and a $5,000 street-cut bond (City of Lafayette).
  • Erie: the street permit is free (Town of Erie).
  • Superior and Firestone: street placement needs Town permission. Call the Town for the current fee.

Size the Job Before You Price It

Most single-home jobs in these cities land in a 10, 15, or 20-yard. A garage cleanout fits a 10. A kitchen remodel fits a 15. A roof tear-off or full-home cleanout fits a 20 by volume, with weight as the catch. Basement finishes in newer Erie and Firestone homes usually land in a 15 or 20. For heavy loads, read roofing dumpster rental before the crew starts.

When Not to Rent a Dumpster

Skip the roll-off when the load is a few pieces of furniture and a pile of boxes. A junk removal crew or your hauler's bulk pickup can cost less than any container. Skip it in Louisville when the job will run past 30 days without an active building permit, because the City permit will not stretch to cover it.

What to Ask Every Provider

  • Container size and included tons
  • Overage per ton
  • Included rental days and the daily extension charge
  • Delivery and any trip fee for your address
  • Who pulls the city permit if the bin cannot go on the driveway

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dumpster cost in Boulder County?
It depends on size, included tons, overage per ton, rental days, delivery, and debris type. Get two quotes for the same size and the same days and compare every line. I do not publish an unsourced price table for these cities.
What permit costs can I plan for?
Louisville lists a $75 base fee plus $75 per week for a roll-off in the right-of-way, and requires a Temporary Use Permit even on private property. Erie street permits are free. Lafayette requires a licensed contractor with a $5,000 street-cut bond. Superior and Firestone: call the Town.
What makes a quote jump after the job?
Weight. Shingles, tile, concrete, and soil push past the included tons fast. Get the overage per ton in writing before loading.
Is a bigger dumpster cheaper per yard?
Often, but not always. Compare one larger container against two hauls of a smaller one using the same provider quote.
When should I skip the dumpster?
When the load is a few pieces of furniture or a handful of boxes. Junk removal or a bulk pickup can cost less than any container.
