Northern Colorado Dumpster Permits: Frederick, Dacono, Platteville, Milliken & Berthoud

Drive 20 minutes up I-25 from Firestone and you cross five sets of dumpster rules. Two of them apply even when the bin sits on your own driveway.
The short answer on northern Colorado dumpster permits: Dacono and Platteville want a Town or City permit before any roll-off lands, driveway included. Frederick does not sell you a street option at all; the bin goes on your property. Milliken and Berthoud leave the driveway alone and require a permit for anything in the street, alley, or other right-of-way.
TL;DR
Driveway first, everywhere. In Dacono, pull the $10 City permit and use a City-licensed hauler. In Platteville, pull the $20 Town permit even on private property. In Frederick, keep the bin out of the street. In Milliken and Berthoud, a street bin means a CommunityCore permit.
The Five Towns Side by Side
| Town | Private driveway | Street or right-of-way |
|---|---|---|
| Frederick | Where the Town wants it | Out of roads and alleys; subject to ticketing |
| Dacono | City permit required: $10, generally 2 weeks | Not permitted on City streets |
| Platteville | Temporary use permit required: $20, 30 days | Must follow Town right-of-way rules on safety and emergency access |
| Milliken | No right-of-way permit | Counter Residential Street Obstruction Permit via CommunityCore |
| Berthoud | No right-of-way permit | ROW or Roll-Off Dumpster/Storage permit via CommunityCore |
Frederick: The Driveway Is the Plan
The Town of Frederick building FAQ says a remodeling dumpster must be in your driveway or on your property, and out of alleys and roads for emergency access. One left in the road is subject to ticketing and sits there at your own risk. The Town's right-of-way permit ($150 license fee plus a refundable deposit) covers work in the right-of-way; it is not presented as a dumpster option, so talk to Engineering before counting on it. Roofers: Frederick requires a mid-roof inspection after the full tear-off, so the bin stays until it passes. Details: Frederick.
Dacono: Permit First, Even on the Driveway
Dacono's Dumpster Permits page is short and firm. A City permit is required before delivery. Dumpsters are not permitted on City streets and must sit entirely on the property. Approved permits are $10 and generally valid for two weeks. Every refuse hauler must be licensed by the City, and the page lists the licensed companies. Check the list before you book. Details: Dacono.
Platteville: $20 for 30 Days on Private Property
Platteville's licenses and permits page defines a roll-off dumpster as a truck-hauled container of 10 cubic yards or larger. A temporary use permit is required before one is placed on private property. The fee is $20 and it is valid for 30 days. A roll-off in the right-of-way has to follow the Town code on right-of-way use, including safety and emergency vehicle access. Call Town Hall before you plan on the street. Details: Platteville.
Milliken: A Street Permit With Phone-Only Payment
Milliken's right-of-way permit page requires a permit to store a dumpster or moving container in an alley or on the side of a road. The Counter Residential Street Obstruction Permit covers roll-offs in the right-of-way that may block traffic or sight lines. Apply on CommunityCore after registering. The Town assesses fees after review and emails an invoice. Payment is by phone or in person at Town Hall; online payment is not accepted. Details: Milliken.
Berthoud: Insurance and a Licensed Hauler
Berthoud requires a right-of-way or Roll-Off Dumpster/Storage permit before a container goes in Town right-of-way. Apply through CommunityCore. The Town can ask for a certificate of insurance naming Berthoud as additional insured, a scope of work and vicinity map, and a traffic control plan if the bin impedes traffic or a sidewalk. Companies providing waste disposal in Berthoud need a Waste Management License. Details: Berthoud.
When Not to Bother With the Street
Skip the street whenever the driveway fits the container. In Frederick and Dacono the street is not on the menu anyway. In Milliken and Berthoud, a street permit adds paperwork, review time, and possibly insurance documents for a job that fits on the driveway. If the driveway is too short, size down or plan two smaller hauls before you file anything.
