Roll-off dumpster on a driveway with Front Range peaks behind in northern Colorado

A roll-off quote north of the metro is the same handful of numbers as anywhere else, plus one that grows with every mile of county road between the yard and your driveway.

The short answer on northern Colorado dumpster rental cost: the price is built from the container size, the weight it includes, the per-ton overage, the rental days, and delivery to your address. Local permits sit on top, and two towns charge one even on the driveway. I am not publishing a price table for Frederick, Dacono, Platteville, Milliken, or Berthoud, because I do not have a sourced one. Here is how to read the quote instead.

TL;DR

Get two quotes for the same size and the same rental days. Compare included tons, overage per ton, extension fee, and delivery. Add $10 for a Dacono permit or $20 for a Platteville permit, even on the driveway. In Milliken and Berthoud, street placement adds a permit with fees set at review.

How a Roll-Off Quote Is Built

  • Container size. 10, 15, 20, 30, or 40 yards. Bigger costs more, but one larger container can beat two hauls.
  • Included weight. Every quote includes a tonnage allowance. Shingles, tile, concrete, and soil hit it fast.
  • Overage per ton. The line that turns a fair quote into an ugly invoice. Get it in writing.
  • Rental period and extensions. Ask how many days are included and what each extra day costs.
  • Delivery distance. Platteville acreage and Berthoud's valley edges can sit a long way from the nearest yard. Ask for any trip or fuel charge up front.
  • Debris type. Clean yard waste, clean concrete, and mixed construction debris can be priced differently.

Permit Fees Are the Numbers You Can Look Up

These are the published local numbers I could verify:

  • Dacono: a City dumpster permit is required before delivery, even on the driveway. Approved permits are $10 and generally valid for two weeks (City of Dacono).
  • Platteville: a temporary use permit is required before a roll-off goes on private property. $20, valid for 30 days (Town of Platteville).
  • Frederick: the Town FAQ lists no dumpster permit fee; it expects the bin on your property, and a bin in the road is subject to ticketing (Town of Frederick).
  • Milliken: street placement needs a Counter Residential Street Obstruction Permit. The Town assesses fees after review (Town of Milliken).
  • Berthoud: street placement needs a right-of-way or Roll-Off Dumpster/Storage permit. The Town does not publish the fee on that page. Haulers need a Town Waste Management License, a $250 application fee on the provider's side (Town of Berthoud).

The full rules are in the northern Colorado dumpster permit guide.

Size the Job Before You Price It

Most single-home jobs in these towns land in a 10, 15, or 20-yard. A garage cleanout fits a 10. A kitchen remodel fits a 15. A roof tear-off or full-home cleanout fits a 20 by volume, with weight as the catch. Farmhouse estate cleanouts and outbuilding teardowns around Platteville and Berthoud often run to a 30. In Dacono, size to what fits fully on the driveway, because the street is not an option. For heavy loads, read roofing dumpster rental before the crew starts.

When Not to Rent a Dumpster

Skip the roll-off when the load is a few pieces of furniture and a pile of boxes. A junk removal crew or your hauler's bulk pickup can cost less than any container. Skip the long rental in Dacono if the job will drag well past two weeks; ask the City about the permit before you book, not after.

What to Ask Every Provider

  • Container size and included tons
  • Overage per ton
  • Included rental days and the daily extension charge
  • Delivery and any trip fee for your address
  • Local license status (Dacono hauler license, Berthoud Waste Management License)
  • Who files the permit, and whether the fee is passed through

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dumpster cost in northern Colorado?
It depends on size, included tons, overage per ton, rental days, delivery distance, and debris type. Get two quotes for the same size and the same days and compare every line. I do not publish an unsourced price table for these towns.
What permit costs can I plan for?
Dacono charges $10 for a dumpster permit that is generally valid two weeks, required even on the driveway. Platteville charges $20 for a 30-day permit on private property. Milliken assesses street permit fees at review. Frederick's FAQ lists no dumpster permit fee and expects the bin on your property.
Why do rural addresses cost more to serve?
Delivery distance and site access. Acreage around Platteville or the edges of Berthoud can sit far from the nearest yard, and gravel drives or soft ground can complicate drop-off. Ask for any trip or fuel charge in the quote.
What makes a quote jump after the job?
Weight. Shingles, tile, concrete, and soil push past the included tons fast. Get the overage per ton in writing before loading.
When should I skip the dumpster?
When the load is a few pieces of furniture or a handful of boxes. Junk removal or a bulk pickup can cost less than any container.
